Hello, My name is Thomas Hobbes. I am an English philosopher. My main belief is that humans are most concerned about them selves and do not look out for others. Humans have a great lust for power, and they will do almost anything to gain it. Here is a perfect example of this. It was last year on Black Friday, when the store worker at Wall Mart opened the door to open the store and people were outside waiting to get in for the sales. When the worker opened the door to let the shoppers in, The worker was trampled and killed in by the non-caring, sale hungry customers. People in society today are driven by money, and power. Another example of human greed is Bernard Madoff. In total, he scammed his clients for more than $50 billion. He also then pleaded guilty to fraud charges. This again proves how the human nature of people is to just take the easy road out, so that in the end they can end up in the best possible state, not caring who or what they hurt to get there. I can also make a case that the American fast food problem also is directly related to this. It is not really related to the gaining power part of it, but it is certainly related to the Greed side of things. Americans are so greedy, they don't even think about what the fast food is affecting(their health) because they just want it so bad. It is cheep so it is hard to resist, and there is no way americans are going to just not buy fast food because they are thinking about the possible consequences, they don't care about that, all they care about is what they want at that moment of time, and they are going to make sure they get it.
My view on The Social Contract, is that after the third party is given control, eventually, the third party will start to take advantage of their power and abuse it. I think this because I don't see how a person in that situation would pass up the opportunity to take advantage of the situation and gain all power.
Thomas,
ReplyDeleteI like your Passion and convictionin this post. You really tell people exactally what youi think and you seem like a pretty confident person. I personally am not as straight foward and cut throat with my beliefs. I am sort of half and half based on the fact that i dont believe that anyone is completely bad deep down, and that seems to be what you think. I believe that deep down inside everyone is good. The thing is that there are definitely people in the world that are very bad, mean people that have no thought for others. I also think that one's view on human nature is directly related to how they were raised, and what kind of situation/family they were raised in. Deep down though i believe that everyone has at least a litle tiny bit of good inside them.
